Application period

The next grant application period is from  December 24th 2017 until January 31st 2018. During this period the application form will be available on the Foundation’s homepage and can be filled out and sent electronically.

Instructions

Every application must be sent both electronically and also in the form of a signed paper copy according to the instructions. Only forms fulfilling the instructions will be considered.

Attention!  On the Foundation’s homepage, there is an application form for research grants, as well as one for professional training and projects.

An application for a research grant must not only be sent electronically, but also six complete paper copies (one signed original + five copies) must be sent.

Applications for professional training and projects must also be sent electronically, and two paper copies (one signed original and one copy) must be received.

Personal and bank information

The applicant’s personal identification number and bank account number can be added to the application form, but this information is not necessary at the application stage. We respectfully request however that the birthdate would be added (ddmmyy). Associations are requested to add the date when the association was founded (ddmmyy).

Name of the research project

The name of the research project should be added in Finnish if the rest of the form is filled out in Finnish, or it should be in the language of the research project. The name does not have to be translated into Swedish.

Length of the research project

The research funds are being granted for the period 2016–2017. A report of the results of the study should be received by the Foundation by 15 December 2017. If requested, a project can be extended for as long as two years, in which case the delivery of funds will be delayed accordingly. Please contact the Foundation regardin this matter. In such cases, the grant funds should obtained no later than 31 December 2019, and the final report must be delivered no later than 31 March 2020.

If the researcher or research group applies for additional funds after two years, an interim report must be submitted no later than 15 December 2017.

Estimate of research costs

If the research costs are to include university costs (overhead), they should be added to the item other costs. If these other costs are more than EUR 2000, they should be itemized in the research plan.

Grants for professional training and projects

Professional training and projects should take place between 1 April 2016 and 31 March 2018. Nevertheless the grant is to be accepted no later than 31 December 2017, and a report on the use of the grant should be sent to the Foundation immediately after the completion of the professional training or the project, and no later than 31 March 2018.

Signing the application, the applicant confirms the following:

  • The Foundation can publish his or her name, the purpose of the grant and the sum of the grant both on its homepage in its list of grant recipients in its annual report.
  • The recipient gives permission to the Foundation to exchange information with other foundations concerning approved grants in order to avoid doubled approvals.
  • The Foundation can add his or her personal information to its register of grant applicants and to the register of grants to be paid. In setting up its registers, the Foundation has adhered to the general regulations for data protection according to the law on personal data protection.
  • The recipients of grants pledge that they will provide an electronic report as well as a paper copy of the report of their activities before the deadline for such reports. More information can be found in the section grant reports.

Receipt of a grant

At the end of May 2016, a written response to grant applicants will be sent only to those who receive a grant. The names of the recipients will be published on the Foundation’s homepage and in its annual report.

The decision concerning grant recipients will be made at the Foundation’s annual meeting, after which letters confirming grant approval will be sent. In the confirmation letter, the recipients will be requested to send their personal identification number and bank account number, preferably by e-mail (stiftelsen@gyllenbergs.fi), to the Foundation. This will not be necessary if the recipient provided that information on his or her application form.

Research grants are paid in two parts, being paid at the beginning of June each year, unless otherwise agreed upon. Professional training and project grants are paid to the recipients in one sum when the recipients contact the Foundation’s office.

The approved grant will not be paid if the previous grant has not been reported.

Information on a confirmed grant is sent to MELA (The Farmer’s Social Insurance Institution) if the research project lasts longer than four months or if the annual minimum amount for a MELA grant is exceeded.

The Foundation also reports paid grants to the income tax office on an annual basis.

 

Research grants that are approved in 2016 must be claimed no later than 31 December 2019. Grants for professional training and projects must be claimed no later than 31 December 2017.
